A/Professor Ben Kwan is a consultant respiratory and sleep physician with clinical appointments at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney, The Sutherland Hospital (where he is Co-Head of Department), and as Respiratory Lead for Justice Health. He has a diverse practice covering respiratory infections, airway disease, pulmonary embolism, respiratory failure and sleep disorders.

Ben holds a PhD from UNSW focused on upper airway physiology and the use of ultrasound in respiratory medicine. He has a special interest in pleural diseases and thoracic ultrasound and is highly experienced in interventional procedures including indwelling pleural catheters, bronchoscopy and EBUS (endobronchial ultrasound).

In addition to his clinical work, Ben is passionate about education and research. He is a Conjoint Associate Professor with UNSW, actively involved in teaching and supervision, and collaborates on local and international research in pleural disease, sleep medicine, smoking cessation and community-based respiratory care.

Ben is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.N
